Winnebago County

Winnebago County was formed in 1836 out of Jo Daviess and LaSalle Counties.  It was named for the Winnebago Tribe of Native Americans.  Cities in Winnebago County are Argyle, Cherry Valley, Durand, Harrison, Loves Park, Machesney Park, New Millford, Pecatonica, Rockford, Rockton, Roscoe, Seward, Shirland, South Beloit, and Winnebago.  

 

Boone County

Boone County was formed in 1837 out of Winnebago County.  It was named for Kentucky frontiersman Daniel Boone.  Cities in Boone County are Belvidere, Caledonia, Capron, Garden Prairie, Poplar Grove, and Timberlane. 

 

Ogle County

Ogle County was formed in 1836 out of Jo Daviess and LaSalle Counties, and named in honor of Captain Joseph Ogle, a veteran of the Revolutionary War who came to Illinois in 1785.  The county was divided three years later in 1839, when Lee County was formed.  Cities in Ogle County are Byron, Creston, Forreston, Hillcrest, Leaf River, Mount Morris, Oregon, Rochelle, and Stillman Valley.
